Master Class

Working on the creation of a baby book is a very exciting activity that has a complex effect on the development of the child:

Promotes the development of creativity of preschoolers;

Increases sensory sensitivity, that is, it contributes to a subtle perception of shape, texture, color;

Develops imagination, spatial thinking, general manual skill, fine motor skills;

Synchronizes the work of both hands;

Forms perseverance, the ability to plan work to implement the plan, anticipate the result and achieve it, if necessary, make adjustments to the original plan;

In the course of creative activity, children make many discoveries, achieve personal achievements. The result obtained is the first and very important stage of children's creativity.

Material: colored cardboard, sheets of A4 paper (you can use different colors, old coloring books or children's magazines, glue stick, scissors.

Description of the process of making a baby book:

1. First we make the pages. To do this, we take colored sheets of A4 paper, fold them in half (along) and cut along the fold line.

2. We coat the edge of the sheet with glue and glue it. Depending on the thickness of the book, there may be 2-3-4 such leaves.

3. We fold a long sheet of paper like an accordion.

5. We coat the edges of the cover with glue and paste the pre-prepared pages.

6. Now we proceed to the design of the book. We come up with a name and write or stick it on the cover.

8. The baby book is ready!

I wish you good luck and creative success!

Magic shelf at the project participants "Weekend with your favorite book" is filled not only with saved books that the children read, played with and sketched in a diary, but also with books with their own hands. Participants share their ideas for creating books with their children of different ages. 6 master classes for every taste from a folding book to a printed book in several copies were prepared by enthusiastic mothers. I am sure you will like a few ideas and want to repeat with your kids.

Folding book "Memo"

Our book - a folding bed is called "Memo".

Manufacturing process:

A long strip of paper was folded like an accordion. Attached the cover. On the cover of the ready-made stickers of letters, the name of the book "Memo" was laid out. The child glued the animals. The book has 2 spreads on one side and one spread on the other side. The size of the finished book turned out to be 105x150 mm. Materials used: paper, cardboard, stickers.

There were a lot of ideas for creating a book, but the child still doesn’t really like to invent fairy tales, so we decided to make a memo - a reminder. It described the actions of the child during the day, according to the time of day. There are three spreads in the book: morning, afternoon, evening.

The morning begins with making the bed, washing, brushing teeth, having breakfast, kissing family members.

During the day we walk, after the street I wash our hands, we have lunch, we do. In the evening, I wash my hands, have dinner, put away toys, read books (although we read books at any time when the desire appears), brush our teeth, swim and sleep sweetly.

The illustrations were selected in accordance with the text, as simple as possible, since my mother drew herself. Although the book turned out to be simple, my son really liked it. We are very inspired and collect material for the alphabet!

Book with opening windows for the little ones

Manufacturing process:

  1. We take a sheet of A4;
  2. Bend it in half on both sides;
  3. We cut in the middle. The folded half is the page;
  4. We make the required number of pages in this way;
  5. We put all the pages together with a fold outward, and put the last one on the contrary - this will be the cover;
  6. We fasten with a stapler.

For us, these were opening windows where Dasha pasted a suitable animal (ready-made stickers) and read how he speaks. She also decorated the cover herself (magazine clippings). Later we will add pictures to the book, we will select a rhyme for each animal and color everything.

Fairy tale "About a miracle"

The process of creating the book took several days. First, Sonya and I came up with and wrote down a fairy tale about the girl Asya.

There lived a girl. Her name was Asya, and she was four years old. For the New Year, Santa Claus brought Asya many gifts: a new doll, a plush dog, a beautiful dress with tights and a magic wand.

Asya decided to try the magic wand. At first she wanted a bag of chocolates, waved her magic wand, but nothing came of it. Then Asya cast a spell: “Kreks, fex, pex! I want a lot of beautiful bows and hairpins! ”, But again nothing came of it. “And it’s not magical at all,” Asya got upset and put the wand in a box with old toys.

Outside, meanwhile, the weather turned bad. In the middle of winter, everything began to melt, puddles and slush appeared. Returning home from work, Asya's mother got her feet wet and fell ill. She had a fever and a sore throat. Mom was lying in bed, and she was so ill that she could not even play with Asya.

Then Asya decided to bake a raspberry pie to cure her mother. She took a cookbook, found a recipe, but that's bad luck: Asya could not read and did not know how much flour, butter, sugar and eggs should be put in! Asya was about to cry when she suddenly remembered the magic wand. She ran to her room and found her wand among the old toys.

Then she took the wand and said, “Wand, please help me bake a cake for my mother. I really want my mother to get well!” And then the whole stick lit up, sparkled, and everything around - a cookbook, a bowl, a spoon, a whisk, a rolling pin - came to life! Together they helped Asya to knead and roll out the dough, lay out the filling and put the pie in the oven.

When the cake was baked, Asya took the most delicious piece to her mother with a cup of hot tea. Mom ate the pie and immediately felt better because it was baked with love!

Then I typed the text on the computer, and my husband printed it out at work. The fairy tale is printed on A4 sheets in landscape orientation, so the finished book turned out to be A5 in size. The circulation is small - only two pieces. One copy was illustrated by the grandfather, and the second by Sophia personally. The covers are made from scrapbooking paper. The books are sewn together with staples.

Book about the adventures of Ant and Grasshopper

We made a book to replenish our magical bookshelf.

Mikhail is 6 years old and he wrote his own adventures. After the experience with Khrustik, I decided not to interfere at all in the process of creating the author's book and only wrote down his thoughts, sometimes only helping with the active use of the dictionary, that is, in the selection of synonyms and adjectives. It turned out unusually for him and I patiently wrote it down.

Adventures of Ant and Grasshopper

Winter in the forest. Grasshopper and Ant sleep in their houses.

With the onset of spring, they wake up and go towards each other, as they are very bored after the winter. When they meet, they are very happy and go to play fun games in the forest, in the clearing.

Tired of the mess in the nursery? Tired of endlessly collecting toys for the child?

And when summer came, an old friend Scientist Beetle came to the Ant for his birthday and told them that he knows the bird Lila, which flies high, above the clouds, and she knows that far beyond the forest there is a high mountain where the magic Dragon lives.

Two friends decide to go camping to get to know the Dragon. As it became known, he breathes magical fire and that fire fulfills as many as 18 wishes! Friends prepared gifts for him: a golden ring with a wolf's claw, a basket of wild berries and a fabulous flower in the form of a bell, the pollen of which uplifts the mood and tells fairy tales itself.

Grasshopper and Ant walked through the forest for a long time, spent the night in a cave, reached a waterfall, went down in a boat made of sticks, swam in the lake, went out to a clearing and noticed an unusual flower with purple leaves. They have never seen anything like it. Raising the petals, the friends noticed a magic wand and a boulder stone with a hole there. They "stuck" it there, the wand began to fall asleep and it turned into a lever.

The Grasshopper offered to press the wand, and immediately after this action, a mountain rose in front of them, on top of which the Dragon's castle appeared.

Ant and Grasshopper began to climb up to the castle, went into it and found a very sad Dragon sitting in a chair.

The dragon was surprised by the arrival of unusual and unexpected guests. He had never met such beings before. They got into a conversation and the Dragon said that he was very lonely, no one was friends with him. Everyone thinks he is evil and bad. But in fact, he loves to do good deeds and help.

Speaking about good deeds, the Ant and the Grasshopper remembered the gifts and handed them to the dragon. He liked them very much. The dragon invited his new acquaintances to drink tea with a cake made from milk clouds, and decorated it with donated berries. Together they had a lot of fun and interesting, but it was time to say goodbye and go back. Friends agreed that they would meet again and would now play together and come to visit each other.

Then we gave our elder sister (13 years old) our manuscript for illustration. Thus, she received the task, and dad was taken to correct stylistic errors. (But I asked him not to judge too much and not to change Misha's "style" in order to preserve his language). After all the events, I received everything prepared for layout. I printed it, added illustrations (my daughter sketched them from the Internet) and printed them out on a printer.

Next, Mikhail and I assembled the book, glued it, chose the cover and fastening details. We got a book half of A4 format (I printed in two columns). At first they wanted a hard cover, and then Misha saw felt and wanted a soft cover as well. As a result, a double cover, felt on the outside, thick cardboard inside. The pages themselves are glued together, the cover and the book are connected with a decorative cord.

We really liked the process, which we slowly stretched out for three days, we worked in the evenings. Now our book occupies a worthy place on the magic shelf and Misha treats it very reverently, and with pride.

Stitched book with poems

We did not make the book for the first time. We usually use different techniques. This time we decided to make a book. But first things first.

First of all, Jaromir wrote a story. It turned out this:

One Fox attempted on the Hedgehog.
He is lying in his grass,
Curled up like a ball.
And the Fox saw a fungus,
She went to him and stepped on the hedgehog.
Howled loudly.
Paw pinched.
Hedgehog quickly - to the river,
and to the far shore...
But Lisa could not catch up.
Sat down and cried...
And darkness fell into the copse ...

At the same time, they repeated what rhyme is and how to compose it.

Then the son, with some help from me, typed the text on the computer and printed it out.

Then the pictures were taken. We looked at Jaromir's works and chose the ones that were suitable: a fox, a hedgehog, fungi, a copse with a windbreak, there was even a picture of a hedgehog swimming. We scanned them, reduced them to the required size and printed them out on a color printer.

When the content was selected, the production of the book itself began. The book notebook was made from ordinary A4 sheets, folded in half - the A5 format was obtained.

We added a cardboard cover - cut out a little more in size than the sheets themselves. Then all this was stitched with threads. Thus, the book was almost ready. It remains to make a cover. We chose green fleece for the cover. They cut out a piece of fabric for the cover with an allowance of 1.5 cm. They cut off the corners, bent them and glued them to the cardboard cover with double-sided tape. Then they sewed a paper nameplate with the title of the book and the name of the author to the front of the cover. And glued to the back of the cover, specially left for this purpose free sheets of the book block. The cover turned out to be durable and at the same time soft and pleasant to the touch.

The book is ready. It remains to be filled. Jaromir cut out pictures and lines from a poem from printouts. I arranged them on the pages of the book and glued them with a glue stick.

The process turned out to be quite laborious, given that the child did everything either by himself or actively helped. But the result pleased the child. Jaromir was proud of his creation. I looked at her for a long time. And then with pleasure he ran to show the book to dad.

hedgehog book

We decided to make a book about a hedgehog picking apples. Since our guys are small, I used cardboard, it was glued with paper. She made holes with scissors and wove a braid of thread to fasten the pages of the book.

Then they pasted pictures that the guys painted, and mom wrote the text. The most difficult thing was to write with a pencil on cardboard, I had to press hard on the pencil. The book is not finished yet, in the evening the boys will help to finish and paste the pictures.

It took about 4 hours to make the book, but I first thought about what materials we would use and where to get the pictures. We used some of the pictures that the child made in the kindergarten. I found suitable pictures for coloring from the available ones. I usually print 9 pages per sheet, which is a convenient format. The text was already created for the pictures.

I liked the process of making the book, but the children like to read such a book. Why haven't we done books like this before? We will definitely repeat.

Now for the little ones! Even kids can create a book with the fairy tale "Teremok". This is how the participants of the Fairytale Kaleidoscope did it in one of the creative tasks.

Book-tale "Teremok"

We decided to make a book based on the fairy tale "Teremok", because she is one of my favorites. The teremok itself is a house made of bricks (price tags), a roof (a triangle of colored paper) and a fence (made of matches).

The pages were designed in different ways - with pencil drawings (the forest where Masha got lost), appliqué (bear's house), clippings from magazines, the Internet (Masha and the Bear, stump) and even from a box of oatmeal (to show what kind of porridge Masha cooked for Bear). Words were written on some pages, because my daughter is already very interested in letters, we are looking for the letter A in words.

Most of all, my daughter likes the portraits of the grandfather and the woman at the beginning of the book, laughs, closes and opens the page many times.

Do you make handmade books for your children? Tell in the comments!

Welcome to my blog again! You have fresh ideas from pleasant leisure time with your child. Let's talk today about how to make a book for children with your own hands! Full of enthusiasm and ideas? Share them in the comments, and I will talk about my discoveries and crafts.

I'll start with books for babies, namely, how to make a soft educational book for your baby.

For what, from what and how now I will tell. Even the smallest baby, a baby from 3-4 months old, will be interested in playing with such a book. Create with whatever is at hand: felt, paper, fabric, cardboard. What are they needed for:

  1. The soft baby book can be washed or new pages added at any time.
  2. With its help, the natural development of the crumbs takes place: sensory - the baby gets acquainted with the forms, learns to recognize them; fine motor skills improve - it contributes to the faster development of speech, improves coordination of fingers.
  3. The baby in a playful way can learn to count, learn about the world and nature.

I can't sew, what should I do?

You will not need special sewing skills and you can even do without a typewriter:

  1. Use felt, it doesn't require edging.
  2. Use simple shapes - geometric shapes, a daisy, a rainbow, a fish, a lake, all this does not require sewing or drawing skills.
  3. There is no machine - you can just sew with a needle, the main thing is to fix it well so that the baby does not swallow
  4. Use purchased applications, ribbons, buttons, all this is now easy to find in a wide variety of forms.
  5. Use simple scripts. To begin with, it is not necessary to set the task of sewing a doll and dressing it up in different outfits. It is enough to sew on ribbons of different colors and study colors, shapes, etc.

Of course, if you sew for sale, and the demand for such books is very high, then you need some experience, which, in principle, is gained after sewing 3-5 books.

Get down to business

For manufacturing you will need:

  • the main fabric for the pages of the book;
  • felt fabric (you can buy separately or purchase a ready-made set in the store);
  • scissors;
  • lightning;
  • tapes;
  • Velcro;
  • laces;
  • pieces of filler, it can be a synthetic winterizer / holofiber or small shreds to fill the pages;
  • buttons / beads / beads (for those children who have already stopped tasting everything);
  • cardboard (for making templates);
  • lightning;
  • buttons.

Do you want to know how beautiful, with a twist to make a book? For this you need a little. Use satin ribbons, buttons, beautiful beads and multi-colored beads, buttons.

In addition, you will need to have your own time to make. Do not sew in front of the baby. He can take a needle or scissors in his hands, because the baby is interested in everything. The best time for creativity is pregnancy, give a book for birth.

First, calculate the length of the material that you will need. Then, from cardboard or paper, make blank templates for the main pages if they involve a complex scenario. Cut out the required number of squares. Do not forget that 2 blanks will go to one page. If your book will have 5 pages, then you will need 10 squares of fabric.

Sew 2 blanks from 3 sides, put a filler inside (synthetic winterizer, for example). This is necessary so that the pages do not wrinkle. Then sew the remaining 4 side. The first page is ready. Use a rougher material for the cover, or use a little more filler. Everything that will happen next depends on your imagination, perseverance and, of course, the age of the baby.

Mom's first experience

How to make applications

Transfer the pattern you like to paper, cut it out, then outline it on the fabric, do not forget to leave a small indent (allowance) for internal seams. Remember to sew 3 sides inside out. Then you need to turn the product inside out and carefully sew on the front side. This also applies to the pages of the book. To make it look nice and neat.

Prepare applications in advance that you will use to describe the plot in the picture.

When creating a homemade book for blind children, try to use different materials: soft and dense, rustling. After all, through tactile perception, a visually impaired baby learns to know the world.

We develop fine motor skills

We combine the pleasant - the game, with the useful - we develop small fingers. What will the child be interested in? After all, it will be great if the baby learns to lace up shoes, tie shoelaces, fasten and unfasten buttons on their own.

To do this, turn on the pages where you can weave the lace. For example, glue the applique of the boot, make small holes, process them, stitching them well along the edges. First, thread the lace with the baby, then he will do it himself. After 2 years, the baby can master this skill on their own. After 3-3.5 learn to tie a knot, knit a bow.

Consider button pockets. For example, a leaf on a button, under which a small caterpillar will hide.

Sew a few multi-colored snakes of a small size firmly. The kid will have fun opening and closing them again and again.

Learning forms

Thanks to a small book, a child will learn to distinguish between large objects and small ones. On the page, make 2 baskets, one for small items (circles/squares/triangles), the other for large ones.

You can make simple and complex applications from small and larger geometric shapes. Snowman: place the largest circle at the base, glue a smaller one on top of it. We build a Christmas tree according to the same type. From rectangles, squares, you can build a large / small house with windows, and use the triangle as a roof.

We develop thinking

Put together simple puzzles: an image of a car, the sun, animals, a ship. Learn vegetables and fruits. To do this, you can use the same baskets. We put fruits in one, vegetables in the other.

Study natural phenomena. Velcro leaves can be attached to the tree, when they fall - autumn comes. Create snow with your own hands, fill the space with snowflakes, build a snowman. When the sun peeps out, it is day, and when it hides, it is night. Everything is simple and easy.

Study animals. For example, domestic animals live near the house, and wild ones live in the forest. Soon the baby will figure it out on his own and without errors will begin to perform this simple task.

Create a children's book, a fairy tale with your own hands, using ready-made Velcro hero templates.

Paper or cardboard book

Paper books are suitable for older children, I started making such books for my son from the age of 10 months, but everything is individual here.

Why do we need a paper book, if now there is a huge selection of books in stores, many will ask. First, not all books contain adequate pictures. In modern books, one can find disproportionate people, inadequate images, distorted fairy tales that do not teach at all as one would like.

We have a big beautiful book "Swan Geese", the pictures in it are beautiful, good, kind faces, human, but the content of the tale is distorted. The girl helped the apple tree not out of the kindness of her heart, but because the apple tree would hide her. We all remember the fairy tale, how the girl ran looking for her brother, met an apple tree, which groaned under the weight of apples and helped her, took pity, although she was in a hurry. And on the way back, the apple tree hid them from the swans. And the stove not only hid it, but even then treated it to a pie. And in our new book, what is brought up? This is a photo of the described scene from our book:

  1. adequate pictures, not oversaturated with colors, distorted faces
  2. the scenario of a fairy tale, what it teaches: goodness without self-interest, or do me a favor, and I will help you for it ...

Of course, it is very difficult to look for tricks in fairy tales and it is not always possible to see everything in the store, many books that we bought or gave to us were burned at the stake))

Now about what you can think of

Print the book yourself, insert good pictures into it. It's not difficult, you just need to have basic skills in Word. The second option is to cut pictures from books, magazines and glue them into an album, sign them. This can be done with educational cards and therapeutic fairy tales, and just our good old fairy tales. You can even make voluminous fairy tales.

You can involve older brothers or sisters, you can glue with the baby. From the age of 1, kids love to make applications. And most importantly, after 4 years, the book will not get bored, since the child himself took part. And after 5 years, a child, already an adult, can open it himself to read, draw something, add something. This is something more than just a book, these are your joint pleasant memories, such fairy tales will be remembered much longer and will lay in a person much stronger good programs than such books as our “Geese-Swans in Modern Processing”

The point is small - desire, fantasy, time and lack of laziness.

For older children

Older children need more complex and interesting stories. You can make books about the planet earth, about space, about production, about countries, about mathematical problems.

It is easier for older children to make paper books, but soft books with tic-tac-toe games or walkers that you can take on the road will be interesting and practical. Even chess and checkers can be made from fabric, they do not take up space, they are much brighter and more original than usual ones.

The whole process of creating a hardcover book from scratch at home with your own hands. Photos and descriptions of the process are present.

Each of us once thought about the fact that he does not have the opportunity to read some books not in electronic format, but on paper, which we love so much for the “soul” and “smell”. I decided to make a book called The State by Machiavelli because I am reading it at the moment. And in Russia it is very difficult to get a paper copy of it.

Choose a format

First you need to choose a format. I have this A5 and in view of this, I ran into difficulty when trying to find inexpensive paper in this size. It turned out to be not easy. Therefore, think about it in advance. Next, you need to print the book. In my opinion, this is the most difficult. You need a laser printer with double-sided printing capability. Otherwise, you will run into the problems that I ran into. I spent four long hours with my old inkjet printer, feeding and turning sheets. When printing 300 sheets, I got 50 scrap sheets.

Do not forget to compose an electronic document with a book in the format of a book. Number the pages in reverse order. Set the margins so that the binding of your future book does not hide part of its text. I was lucky, in my electronic copy of the book, almost everything was suitable for printing, except for numbering, margins, and some other minor points. Also, you may need to make or redesign the table of contents, where the chapter pages will be indicated.

When you have finished printing, checked and rechecked the correctness and order, you can proceed to pre-gluing.

Pre-gluing

Take your stack of sheets, align the edges by tapping on the table. Lay on a flat surface and press down on whatever is heavy at hand. You can, when leveling, tap with other books, knocking the sheets into an even block. Place the stack so that it extends 1 cm beyond the borders of the table. Then take PVA glue, a brush, and thickly walk along the future spine. It is very important that the sheets lie very evenly, as it will then be very difficult to push any of the slipped sheets back.

After the spine has been smeared with glue, it is necessary to press it down with something heavy for half an hour. A clamp is best, but if it is not at hand, then you can use dumbbells, jars of pickles, theses, and so on.

After half an hour, slide the stack of sheets of the future book over the edge of the table by 2-3 cm. Now you will need various tools.

  1. Pieces of fabric, chintz is better. You will need it no more than a piece of 50x50 cm, but hardly anyone will sell you less than a running meter.
  2. Black ribbon or braid 6-15 cm.
  3. Strong thick thread.
  4. Hacksaw for metal.
  5. PVA glue.

Take a pencil and mark out strictly vertical lines every centimeter, less often. Then take a hacksaw for metal and saw cuts. Saw as much as necessary so that the thread enters the sawn groove completely. I have it 2 mm.

You can not use a jigsaw, otherwise the paper will light up from heating

As a result, you should get something like an old physics textbook. With this small clamp, which is in the photo above, I fixed the edges when sawing so that the leaves did not diverge when moving up and down. But you can also use your fingers. Which is more difficult, and is fraught with dirty sheets.

Then we take the strings and cut them to the thickness of the spine of the book, plus 3 cm on each side. For me it is 3 cm + 3 cm + 3 cm, total 9 cm. There were 16 cuts on the A5 format. The purpose of the strings is to hold the sheets of the block together.

When the ropes are ready, take the glue and smear the cuts with a brush, trying to get the glue deeper. Then you take the pre-lubricated ropes and thread them into the grooves, pulling the ends so that they are deeper fixed. When all the ropes of the book are in place, once again we pass over them with glue.

Now it's calico time. It will fasten not only ropes and pages, but also connect a block of sheets with a cover. Therefore, it is important to pre-cut it correctly.

The size of the chintz should be the width of the spine, plus 3-4 cm of margin on each side. And in length, the length of the spine, minus half a centimeter on each side. So, on the threads smeared with glue, we lay out the gauze evenly and neatly, and then we pass the glue along the spine along its surface. So that the chintz is well soaked.

Time of captals

Kaptals are such a multi-colored ribbon that intrigued us so much in childhood. It is located at the base of the spine of the book on each side and looks out at you with strings. And behind it is the unknown.

I have it in black, and I didn’t drip it at all, but just a braid from a fabric store. Real book captal can be bought in online stores and special stationery departments. But I was too lazy to buy it, so I just took the braid.

Cut the ribbon to the width of the spine. Kaptal may become pubescent after cutting, as it is made of plastic fabrics. Therefore, so that it does not bloom, walk with a lighter along its edges, and stick it on top of the gauze. And also going half a millimeter beyond the spine in height. Thus, the captal will be glued to the fabric, with a free area from the fabric of half a centimeter and a little more beyond the spine.

All this is smeared on top with another layer of glue. Now you will need paper, which you will glue on top of the fabric and part of the captals.

The length is the same as the fabric, the length of the spine without half a centimeter on each side. It is needed to smooth out everything that we have done under it, and also in order to strengthen the spine itself.

The paper I used was the one in which the A5 sheets were packed. Stick on, smooth out. Excess glue may come out around the edges, which must be very carefully wiped off with a damp cloth.

It's time to use gravity again. But now leave your unfinished book pressed down for 12 hours. Before that, you can move the block of sheets to the side so that the spine sticks out only half a centimeter, so everything will stick evenly. Above is the result of a twelve-hour wait, which exceeded all my expectations. And yours too will surpass if you wait enough time.

Knife time. Cut the strings that stick out on both sides of the spine of the book. Try to cut flush so that nothing sticks out. In the end, only gauze remains.

Endpapers for the block

Now you need to make endpapers for the block. To do this, use Whatman. It is best suited for rigidity and decorative qualities. I used cardboard, since there was no drawing paper at hand. In my case, to create endpapers, I needed two A4 cardboard sheets folded in half and trimmed a little. Since it was not possible to fit them close to the spine, due to not quite evenly cut ropes. After you have cut and tried on the endpapers, it's time to glue them. Apply glue to a strip 2-3 cm wide at the spine on one of the outer sheets of the block, where it is circled in red in the image. And also at the very spine of the flyleaf. Apply it and it turns out, as it were, two additional sheets, but more dense. Do the same on the opposite side.

Don't touch the fabric, it has nothing to do with it!

Only the flyleaf and the outer sheet of the book block are glued together. Put it all neatly under the press for an hour. The sheet assembly is complete.

book cover making

Let's move on to the cover. First you need to cut out the base of the cover. Shoe box cardboard is best. Base dimensions are book size. In my case, A5, plus 8 mm to the width and height. The size of the base for the spine (in the center) - the width is equal to the width of the spine (I have 3 cm), and the height, like A5, plus 8 mm, respectively.
Next, we take the material that will be the cover itself. I have Whatman. And mark before gluing the base of the book cover with the outer material, so that everything turns out smoothly when gluing. Margins from the edges are 2-3 cm. They will be bent inside the cover when gluing. The indents between the central base and the side ones should be at least 8 mm, and preferably 1 cm. This is very important, do not make them too small.
Then we apply glue on the contact side of the base, the contact side of the cover, and carefully, according to the markup, apply them to each other. Now you need to take a knife and cut off the corners so that when the sides are folded, they fit exactly to each other and cover the base of the cover. Then you begin to bend the edges, gently smoothing them. After completion, dry for half an hour under the press. You can decorate the cover in different ways. You can paint, stick the skin, and then squeeze something out on it. I took photo paper and printed out a “cover” for later gluing, also with a spine. I glued it after gluing the block of sheets with the cover.

gluing

The most important! Gluing time. Take any hardcover book off your shelf and see how the cover and block interact when opened and closed. This will help you navigate when gluing.

  1. Take your cover and put a block in it.
  2. Center it inside, and put marks with a pencil so that you can focus on them when gluing.
  3. Then you need to glue one side of the fabric to one of the sides of the cover. The central base of the spine is not involved here. Side base only.
  4. Apply glue to the edge of the base according to the size of the gauze. Apply some glue to the cheesecloth and stick them together. This is a laborious process, you have to sweat. You still have an unglued endpaper hanging.
  5. After gluing the fabric and leveling it, holding it all with only one hand, you need to apply glue over the glued gauze and the entire part of the book cover. To glue the flyleaf and close the gauze. And also close the base itself with a flyleaf.

We check the process from the opposite side. We check whether everything is exactly according to the labels. If all goes well, then it's time to press down on the book as hard as possible and for as long as possible. Ideal for a day.

Passing the night, we get such a cute example of homemade art - a book of our own production. In my opinion, just excellent quality for the first time. Moreover, I am sure that in a couple of books everything will be even more beautiful and better, because I have already managed to note many important details that will need to be taken into account.

In general, when working with so much glue and white paper, there is a high probability of soiling the book during manufacture. Just be careful and wipe excess glue smudges with a barely damp cloth. And wash your hands often by drying them dry.

I painted the cover. Or maybe it's an exclusive author's cover for Anderson's fairy tales. Making books isn't exactly easy, but it's not exactly difficult either. It's an interesting experience. But remember, a book can be not only a source of knowledge, but also a snail, depending on the time.

Every child dreams of their own handmade book. An adult should help him with this. Such a book can serve as a notebook in which your child will draw. Also, a handmade book can be a wonderful gift for a loved one or a close best friend.

Well, how to make such a book yourself? Let's study.

Do-it-yourself small paper book (master class)

To make it you will need:

  • Sheets of white or colored paper;
  • Scissors;
  • Stapler or needle and thread.

Manufacturing steps:

Do-it-yourself medium-sized paper book at home

One of the options for what a craft might look like.

To make it you will need the same materials as for the manufacture of a small book.

First you need to decide what you need this book for, in order to know how many pages it should have. Know that one page makes two. Don't forget the cover. It will require colored cardboard.

If you are going to make it for a gift, then it is better to use paper with a beautiful texture for this.

Do not use lined paper she doesn't fit.

Let's move on to production:

  • Fold it in half. Fold each page one at a time, not all at once. This is necessary so that the fold lines are even.
  • Smooth out the fold lines with a hard object.
  • Folded - fold one into one. If there are a lot of them, then fold the pages in blocks: four or two by six).
  • Fasten each such stack with a stapler. The brackets of one stack must not match the brackets of another blog. This is necessary so that when they are connected there are no ugly bulges.
  • Now fold them up. All edges must be even.

The main part is ready . How to make a binding.

Do-it-yourself book binding (step-by-step master class)

Bindings can be completely different. Its choice depends on the thickness of the product and your desires.

  1. First you need to make a cover. To do this, you need a thick colored cardboard. Fold it in half.
  2. If your collection consists of several parts, then they need to be glued together with adhesive tape. Cut the tape so that it is longer than your item. Stick it on the front and back pages: half tape on the front and half on the back. The excess tape must be cut off.
  3. Glue it to the item.
  4. There is another way to attach parts and covers - a ribbon or cord. If you choose this method, then you do not need to fasten them with a stapler and tape.
  5. Put parts in it.
  6. Align the edges.
  7. Use a hole puncher to make two holes.
  8. Pass a ribbon or string through the holes and tie a beautiful bow.

If you want to make a children's voluminous book for a child, then use durable cardboard. Only in this case the child will not be able to tear it.

Coptic binding

Coptic binding- this is the fastest and easiest way to bind pages together. Even a child can make this look, but it will take a lot of time and patience. A thing with him will be a great addition to your office or hotel.

To make it with such binding you will need:

  • Cardboard;
  • Paper;
  • Thick thread and needle;
  • Awl;
  • Ruler;
  • Pencil.

Master class on making Coptic binding:

  1. Fold the sheets in half, connect them into stacks of three sheets.
  2. For each, the fold line must be marked with a pencil with a ruler. Put five points at the same distance from each other. Pierce them through with an awl. On the rest - you need to put the same points and also pierce.
  3. We make a cover out of cardboard. Fold it in half and put the first part inside.
  4. Now we sew the back and the first part. From the inside, insert a needle and thread into the first extreme hole. A small tail will remain in the fold. With the same thread, pick up the cover from the outside and bring the needle between the stack and cardboard.
  5. Circle the needle around the sewn thread and re-insert it into the first hole.
  6. Tie the tail and thread into a knot and tighten tightly.
  7. The same operation must be done through the second hole. So you need to flash all five holes.
  8. Now put the second block on top of the first and sew it in the same pattern.
  9. The latter will be stitched along with the cover. The needle must be inserted into the outermost hole and brought out between the stack and the cover. Circle the thread around the stitched stitch between the previous two and bring it to the extreme hole of the last pile, pull the thread inward.
  10. The same operation must be repeated with the adjacent hole. On the spine you should get a beautiful pigtail.
  11. Fasten the thread in the middle of the fold of the last part
  12. The original book is ready.
