Notes from the English outback tatyana brisko zhzh. Tatyana Brisko: “I was inspired by people who, for the purpose of self-development, entered the magistracy after retiring

Without further ado 🙂

And so, she was called Tatyana

January 25 has already come, the day beloved by me and all Tatyanas - Tatyana's day. It is always something special - festive and bright. Maybe because it reminds me of youth, student days. Remember the wonderful song of the composer Yuri Saulsky:
“... The earth was white-white, the blizzard was chalk,
Tatiana's day, Tatiana's day.
And for me spring bloomed, April rang,
Tatiana's day, Tatiana's day, Tatiana's day ... "

Dear Tatyana! Happy Angel Day!!!

The song is still popular among students, however, like the holiday - Student's Day. And they celebrate it with great pleasure, because the long-awaited winter holidays begin.
And they began to celebrate this holiday a long time ago, since 1775. Then, on January 25 andEmpress Elizabeth Petrovnasigned a decree on the creation of Moscow University, which was necessary "for the training of the learned sons of the state."
Since then, our children have been learning good and eternal things. And with great pleasureJanuary 25 of each year celebrate Student's Day in most of the former republics, the former USSR.
Well, I, like all Tatyanas, celebrate Angel Day! And I love this day even more than my birthday.

It is said that people who have the same names have similar characters, habits, goals, and even have the same hobbies. Don't believe? I'll give you an example. Somehow I accidentally analyzed the commentators on my blog, and it turned out that my blog is most commented on by namesakes - Tatyana. And each of them has its own interesting blog. Many, like me, are about traveling, but there are also about beauty, health, sewing and knitting, and raising children. And there is about learning a foreign language and blog building. And an absolutely wonderful blog about life in the English outback.

I wanted to make a collage from the blogs of my commentators Tatyana, but unfortunately I did not find all the photos. But I remember all of you and thank you for your comments.

My commentators are bloggers Tatyana

Such a variety of topics speaks of the breadth of Tatyana's creative potential. Here are a few of them so that the reader can see for himself:
You can list for a long time, the list is long, but I won’t bore you - I think that you yourself agree with the variety of Tatyana’s abilities. Among them are many athletes, artists, singers, actresses and craftswomen of other wonderful professions.
Having chosen their path once, Tatyana does not turn off it, but stubbornly go to the end, courageously overcoming all obstacles and hardships on the difficult path of life. Such a feature of constancy characterizes them in the best way. They know how to remain faithful to everything: their cause, principles, ideal, their loved one.
No wonder poets and writers have dedicated so many poems and novels to them. Remember Tatya Larina A.S. Pushkin, or about Turgenevskaya Tatyana. Since childhood, we have met Tatyana and her ball 🙂 And although the name Tatyana is translated as the founder, it is affectionately deciphered as follows:
  • T - hardworking,
  • A - careful
  • N - gentle,
  • Yu - humorous,
  • Sh - chic,
  • K is beautiful
  • A - angelic
You do not agree with this, but in vain. 🙂

On the day of the angel

Well, I joked a little, and now about serious.

From the history

Let's remember where this name came from. Let us pay tribute and respect to the Great Martyr Tatyana of Rome - Tatiana, who left this mortal world on January 12 (according to the new style on January 25), 226. She was beheaded for her unwavering faith and worship of Jesus Christ. Before her execution, she was tortured for a long time, forcing her to renounce her faith.

Tatyana was born into a wealthy noble Roman family. Raised in piety. Having reached adulthood, she took a vow of virginity. During the persecution of Christians, she was captured by the emperor's servants and brutally tortured. Her strength of faith and prayer frightened fanatics, as she did something unimaginable. They write that when Tatyana was forced to bow to the statue of the pagan god Apollo, she prayed to Jesus Christ.

At that moment, an earthquake occurred that destroyed the statue and the temple. Many non-believers died. Tatyana, was accused of their death and of witchcraft. She was tortured for a long time, but the bloody scars of torture disappeared from her body. This circumstance angered the tormentors even more. They threw the martyr to a hungry lion to be torn to pieces. But, to their amazement, in the morning they saw Tatyana alive. The judges considered her a witch, cut her unruly hair, assuming that all the power of witchcraft was in them, and sentenced her to death. Here is such a sad story of the Great Martyr Tatiana.

I won't end on such a sad note. Since then, a lot of water has flowed under the bridge, and many Tatyanas have appeared in the world. All of them are true to their work and try to confidently go through life. I want to congratulate all my namesakes on Angel Day and wish them good health, a lot of travel, love, and good luck in their accomplishments. Tatyana, Tanya, Tanya, Tanya - this verse is for you!

Winter day, cold, snowy,
All trees are in silver.
Tatyana's Day - sweet, gentle
We celebrate in January.
On this day we wish you
Happiness, joy, warmth,
Fulfillment of dreams.
The ones you've been waiting for.
Let the holiday be your favorite
This day of the calendar.
Because you, Tatyana,
Queen of January...
Well, for those who study “good and eternal”, I want to wish excellent studies, so that knowledge and grades are real, and not in the form of “balls”, which students like to call so much on Student's Day, sticking out their schoolbooks out the window. 🙂

Tetyana Brisco from Kiev received her third education at Westminster University (London) and in 2012 became a master of arts in bilingual translation. About the specifics of the British mentality, the choice of a university and its requirements, about work after graduation and, of course, recommendations for future students - read this blog.

My name is Tatyana Brisko. I am a native of Kiev. In 1994 I graduated from the Kiev National Economic University with a degree in finance and credit, in 2002 I graduated from the Ukrainian Institute of Linguistics and Management with a degree in applied linguistics. Nine years later, I had the opportunity to continue my linguistic education at the Master's program at the University of Westminster in London.

My speciality

Of all the variety of language specialties offered by British universities, I settled on MA Bilingual Translation (Master of Arts in Bilingual Translation). Main subjects: technical and institutional translation from English into Russian and from Russian into English, analysis of written discourse and translation studies.

I have always wanted to try myself as a professional translator of academic and technical texts into Russian. At the time of entering the master's program, I had lived in England for eight years and felt confident enough to translate in two directions - from English into Russian and from Russian into English. To make my dream come true, I lacked a diploma from a British university.

The specificity of the local mentality is such that master's studies are encouraged and welcomed at any age. After talking with a professor I knew at Plymouth University, I was convinced that this was the case not only in theory, but also in practice, and at the age of 38 I applied for a master's degree.

I can assure everyone who has not realized their dream of getting an education in the UK that there are no age restrictions. During my studies, I met students of all ages. I was inspired by people who, for the purpose of self-development, entered the magistracy after retiring. Many of them planned to work as freelancers after graduation and explored career prospects.

Westminster University

It was not difficult to choose which university to apply to. I just took the advice of fellow translators. At that time, I already had a degree in interpreting from a British college; I was also an Associate Member of the UK Institute of Translation and Interpretation.

On the recommendation of a colleague, I settled on the University of Westminster. I liked the curriculum. In addition, the university was in London. Convenient transport links played an important role for me: I live in the north of England, and my plans did not include moving closer to the university during my studies.

The training took place on the Regent Street campus, in the building of which 119 years ago, silent films were shown for the first time in Britain. Founded in 1971, the Department of Cinematography at the University of Westminster has given the world a number of notable screenwriters and directors. Today, everyone is talking about the name of Neil Purvis, the alumnus who wrote the screenplay for 007: Skyfall. In addition, Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson once walked along Regent Street, and today this street is home to the most famous shops and restaurants of London's West End. So students do not have to be bored during breaks.

My experience

The academic aspect of studying at a British university and student life itself were fundamentally different from the experience I received in Kyiv. I did not have a culture shock, since I moved to England in 2003 and at the time of entering the master's program I had long been accustomed to the national and cultural diversity of large cities. The university in this regard differed little from the British capital. I think an unprepared person might be surprised by prayer rooms alternating with study rooms, a professor in jeans addressing students while sitting on a table, or the choice of food in a student cafe.

Personally, for me, accustomed to the Soviet education system, it was not easy to adapt to the Western way academically. The university required flexibility in the approach to the educational process, a flight of thought and unconventional thinking. The teachers only guided us in the right direction, the main work had to be done by ourselves - generating ideas, looking for materials not only in the library of the University of Westminster, but also in other London, as well as Ukrainian and Russian libraries. I had to develop my own curriculum. This was especially true for the dissertation: the choice of a topic, the preparation of a work plan, the search for materials and external consultants lay with the students. Such independence at first frightens, and then organizes, motivates and awakens the spirit of healthy competition.

Another difficult moment for me was that twice a week from September to May I traveled along the West Kirby - London - West Kirby route, spending eight hours a day on the road (leaving the house at six in the morning and returning for midnight). But, on the other hand, the moral and everyday support of the family allowed me to fully focus on my studies.
I am really proud of the diploma of the University of Westminster, as the physical and mental efforts made, as well as the mental strength spent, cannot be compared with any of my previous studies or work experience.

Britain or Ukraine?

I link my future with England. Here is my home. Here is my family. Here for many years I worked in my main specialty - an economist in various insurance companies. Here, after receiving a master's degree from the University of Westminster, I found myself as a freelance translator, teacher of translation technology in a college and an immigration specialist in a government organization.

Now I am developing and promoting a personal blog about Britain and am looking for opportunities to apply my knowledge about this country and the skills of a translator, teacher and copywriter in the post-Soviet space. In our age of unlimited possibilities of the Internet, remote work is becoming a reality, and I do not exclude that to some extent my future will be connected with Ukraine.

Tips for future students

Resist the temptation to study in the UK simply because education here is considered elite or you want to go abroad. As in any country, Britain has its own problems, including in the field of education. Analyze the annual rankings of British universities in general and in your chosen specialty. Seek out contacts with former and current students for more first-hand information. Weigh the pros and cons before making a final decision.

Believe in yourself. If you know exactly what you want, don't give up on your dreams as soon as difficulties arise on the horizon. Work on yourself, change adverse circumstances. Who wants, he will achieve! This also applies to looking for work in the UK. Remember that our knowledge, as well as diligence and responsible attitude to work, are in demand in the West.

Business Link is a Ukrainian educational agency specializing in all types of education in the UK and only the UK. We are in love with this wonderful country and that is why we have been dealing exclusively with it for more than 20 years. Over the years, we have learned everything we can about British education and are endlessly happy to share our knowledge with the same Anglo-lovers as we are.
